I'm sure I am not the first to notice this, but I was putting a 401 shortblock together tonight and I had a box of ACL rod bearings that had a little unexpected excitement. Lucky I was not half asleep like I usually am after working all day. Any how you know how there are upper and lower rod bearing inserts? The upper having a notch to send oil out the side of the rod to lube the opposing cylinder wall. I should have had 8 uppers and 8 lowers, b ut the box had 9 lowers and 7 uppers. I had to file the notch into one of them to keep going. Lucky I found it. Drove me nuts and yes I found this out 3/4 of the way through and I thought I had put 2 uppers in one rod, but no.
ANYONE ELSE COME ACCROSS THIS?

Never seen a mixed bag but I suppose its bound to happen. I would go make sure to turn the motor over by hand to make sure you didnt make a mistake

WELL I WENT BACK AND TOO THE ONES I INSTALLED OUT AND THERE WERE NO MISTAKES. THEY JUST PACKED 9 LOWERS AND 7 UPPERS. I AM FU*KING GLAD THAT I NOTICED IT.
WORST CASE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF TWO LOERS WERE INSTALLED? THE OPPOSING CYLINDER WALLS WOULS GET ZERO OIL?

BY THE WAY I AM FINALLY GOING TO INSTALL MY NICKEL COATED BULLTEAR FRONT COVER AFTER 2 YEARS. IS IT WORTH IT TO GET THE UPDATED GEARS? DO YOU HAVE ANY USE FOR OLD AMC COVERS?
