304 no heads

i have a 304 with 360 heads due to a big cam i need to go back to 304 heads, my question is what casting # do i need. is there some type of casting# list that i can match with my 304? thanks

I would like to suggest that instead of finding 304 heads for your 304 block, locate a 360 block out of a Wagoneer and keep the 360 heads! :t:

I agree.. Especially If you have minimal money into the 304... But, you said you have a big cam... (What Cam?.. Specs etc)
Anyway, you had these 360 heads on the 304 right?... I'm guessing that you had the block notched for the larger valves?.. If so, won't that play a significant role in power loss if you switch back to the 304 heads?.... I might be wrong so, people please chime in on this...

what does it take to put the 360 heads on a 304 block - so that performance isn't lost > any special 'notching' style ? would the web casting of an early 70s 304 be better than a later year ? looking at a Turbo engine build - have a 33k mile 1978 360 but cylinder wall strength is of 'interest'. :-| :t:

you can clearance cylinders but then you will have valve shrouding. if your going to used forced induction smaller valves shouldn't hurt you as much as if it was naturally aspirated. if you do use the 360 heads you will lose some compression ration when you have to unshroud the valves and notch the cylinders which could also help a blower motor survive. Lots of boost and high compression ratios dont get along well at all. :lo1l:
