Alt Question

Hi all , long time lurker, first time poster. putting a 360 in my six powered cj7 and was planning on using the alternatorfrom the six. got my bulltear alt. bracket and found that the nonthreaded mount is too small for the bolt in the kit and the mounting ear is too wide to accomodate both nuts. here's the question, do I have to drill and trim the alt case or should I just break down and get the 140 amp one wire delco unit? thanks in advance. justdel 111!!!

Personally, I'd get the bigger ALT because: 1) extra lights eat batteries, and 2) a winch will eat batteries, and 3) Thumper amps (if that's your gig) will eat batteries. Not fun when your DIW at night winching out of a hole and your lights go dark and the winch stops 'casue you don't have the juice. If the ALT can't feed the beastie and the accessories, why rock :-| :mrgreen:

I'm with everyone here. go for the big daddy and maybe add a couple of capasitors. I know the capasitor trick worked on my 1150 watt radio in my s-10

If you could pardon my ignorance but what capacitor trick, and why? JustDel 111!!!

Well a capasitor basically just stores electricity something similar to a battery only when needed the capasitor will discharge all of it's stored electricity in a matter of miliseconds. I added a 1 farad capasitor to my s-10 due to the radio drawing all the power it does, after installing the capasitor my volt gauge barely drops when I have my radio cranked up. whereas before I installed the capasitor with the radio cranked up the volt gauge would drop to around 9 volts or less.

Oh I almost forgot. DO NOT and I can't stress this enough DO NOT once the capasitor is charged cross the power terminals togeather, you will end up taking a trip to the hospital.

Have fun kids :wink: I know for a fact that the discharge of a 15Kw cap will knock you on your azzzz - especially when it's the size of 2 car batteries and you grab the door handle while your feet are in a puddle of H2O with the other lead :oops:
