jeep_man_401 Well, I blew my low range on the transfer case at the fair the other night. It spun the plate in the back of the case. I did manage to take 4th out of 8 with a pull of around 167ft. Truck was loaded to 6050 pounds. Don't know what the sled weight was. Everything was going alright until I dropped it down to 1st gear (low range) to boost the RPM (It was only turning 3500 in 2nd low). I guess the 5600RPM with 460 hp and 460 torque doesn't sit well with a stock QT. I'll try and post some pics soon. Meanwhile if anybody needs some gears for the low range I have them. They are in good shape...just the case is bad. :(:
tufcj Chevy ran a 205 (or was it a 203 or both?) behind the TH400. The same adapters will bolt up to yours. You may need to change the tail shaft. They have a twin case setup, a 205 with a 203 low range unit if you need really low gears. Bob tufcj
zero cool If you use any case but a QT, you'll have to swap tail shafts out of the transmission and get a new tranny-to-tcase adapter. Given that you have to swap the tail shaft, you're looking at $500 no matter which one you choose. Since you're putting a lot of power through your t-case, I would look at an NP205, NP241 or aftermarket case (Atlas or StAK) that can handle that power. The NP205 has a 1.96:1 low range but you can swap in a 3.00:1 gear set. The NP241 has a 2.73:1 low range which is just a little better than the stock Q-track. The Atlas and StAK both come with a variety of gear ratios.
jeep_man_401 I should have stayed in 2nd gear I guess. #-o http://s4.photobucket.com/albums/y116/jeep_man_401/?action=view&current=willmartruckpull.flv The damage... Looking for a 205 now...maybe make use of the 9" ford I have laying around also. :-|
