401 build----gathering parts

What are your opinions on these?:

I am getting the parts together for a 400+ HP 401 and wondered if these would be a good comprimise between full roller rockers and stock. I dont plan on running much over 5k rpms but I want it to hold up when & if I do..... This is going to be a street rod, not a mud or rock jeep. It seems that these are bolt on and would be much more economical that Harland sharp or jezel type rockers. Or is this a waste of good money?

Yes, they are a very good compromise. We have used them in several street engines and they are durable and are a great "bang for the buck."

These are still not bolt on if you have a bridged rocker head. You'd still have to have the head milled for studs and guide plates. The roller tip will extend the life of the valve guides a bit, but don't do anything to reduce friction at the pivot. I doubt you'd see a noticable power gain over stock. Bob tufcj

Depending on your opinion of "noticeable" no rocker swap would see a noticeable gain at 5500 rpms. Without changing ratio, simply added a roller isn't going to do much especially at such low speeds. I call BS on a lot of manufacturer's tests that claim 20+ Hp from a set of rocker arms.

I still think the Magnums are a good choice though, the only gain would probably be extended guide life and whatever horsepower gain possible from equalizing the rocker ratio.
