do you think that all this would be futile for a 5 somethin thousand pound j10?

i was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the crane roller cam for amc v8s

on desktop dyno it appears to have a very broad power range 370 ft/lbs at 2000 rpm increases to 420ft/lbs at 4k with pk hp of 380 at 6000 rpm (with Stock AMC heads and only 8:1 compression) from what i understand a good condition 360 can rev to 6500 for a pinch. If i invested in the forged piston(9:1 compression) also available there, would i be able to do this in an otherwhise stock engine? are the forged rods neccisarry? could the crank take this abuse?

what pushrods, rockers,springs..... would you recomend?

edit: 9:1 compression brings engine to 440 ftlbs at 4k and 420 hp at 5500

Does this camshaft exist?--- I can find no mention of it on the crane cams website, summit or anybody else? So instead what about the Erson High-Flow Mechanical Flat Tappet Camshaft ERS-E710501 Intake Duration at 050 inch Lift: 242 Exhaust Duration at 050 inch Lift: 246 Duration at 050 inch Lift: 242 int./246 exh. Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio: 0.544 int./0.544 exh. lift Lobe Separation (degrees): 108 tq starts at about 350 peaks at just under 400 at 400 rpm and gets 380hp at 6000rpm do you think that these camshafts would work with the edelbrock performer rpm series intake manifold? but more important than the camshaft is how well will a 360 block hold up?.....401s are very difficult to find up here....all the ones i know of is in use thx in advanced

That cam seems a little large for that low compression ratio. I don't know exactly what you are doing with the vehicle but you are going to be giving up low end power. That Erson cam seems fine, but If it were me I wouldn't be able to get myself to use a cam titled as "high flow." 111!!! I've jumped on the Comp Cams bandwagon.

As somone who has a 5800 pound J-10.. heck yea.. I pretty regularly stomp the local kids and thier various "hotrods" with my Jtruck..It sort of defies logic but hey who am I to argue with sucess.?

i think though i will go for a 350 hp setup just for dirvability and economy, the 420 hp setup would be fun during playtime but i think just driveing would be more work than it would be worth, would you recomend the air gap or the performer for the summit 8600? i will likely see temperatures nearing 10f should i just plumb the intake to one of the headers in the winter i have done this before on diesels? would it be necesary, i know very little about how carbuerators behave in the cold about 600-650cfm carb?(85% VE at 5500rpm=572cfm) what carb would you recomend---mostly mud and dirt, shouldnt see extreme angles but it would be nice not to have to worryabout it on the exhaust side, edelbrock shorty headers with custom duel 2.5" exhaust in front of each tire? i know this isnt as extreme as before but i have a line on a 350 hp Ford ranger 5.0l for playin at the strip

For 350HP, which is a fairly mild 360 build, 650 cfm should be just fine. Methinks.

I have a performer intake, 600 cfm carb with the offroad needles and seat kit installed and 14" air cleaner. Used for approximately 20 minutes. Lemme know if interested....

Sorry to hijac but what do you have to do to the heads to run that big of a cam? When do you need to change to adjustable rockers? How much lift will a stock spring handle? I'm l;ooking at the Comp XE262. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

you'd need to call CRANE. they have the profiles for AMC - can cut a roller for your specific engine. looks like they're getting out of making everyday street cams for American iron - judging from their online catalog. :(:
