GADJIT98 OK, here is the new problem.... I just got a Holley 8007 390 cfm used from a guy on the net.....great carb, great price, BUT it doesnt fit on my Offy 2x4 intake. It looks to be nearly 1 inch too big----1/2 inch on both sides. Fuzz, Holeshot, anyone? got any suggestions as to how to locate the proper adapter. A part number would be great. Thank you in advance Dave
CJim7 Thats a pretty universal adapter.....3/4" aluminum spreadbore to squarebore adapter. Napa and all the other guys carry them. I discovered this when i tried to get my quadrajet to mount up to my Edelbrock manifold and got a little worried when the butterflys lined up ¬?" over each side of the intake.
Holeshot There are universal ones on Ebay all the time. Offy also makes them specifically for their intakes & they too are on Ebay from time to time. AKA Edelbrock Performer / Carter AFB intake pattern to 4150/4160 Holley carb pattern. I don't think the word "spreadbore" should have entered this conversation, the spreadbore is also known as the Quadrajet and is characterized by very small primaries and huge secondaries. Unless, of course, the Holley 8007 is a spreadbore.

I just went through this so it's fresh in my mind and the first thing i thought of. In my defense however, he wasnt specific whether or not it's the base fitment (bolt pattern) or the actual valves overlapping. :-|
GADJIT98 Good point, My 8007 390 cfm Holley has 4 bbls that are the same size. I think my problem is the bolt pattern. Also, it looks like the 2 holleys will be VERY close together on this intake ( offy 2x4 ) anyone know if I need to get the sideways adapters or if it will fit like it is using cheap adapters previously mentioned. Thanks Dave
CJim7 Thanks for clarifying Dave. I will slink back to my little corner of the shop now where my little pile of broken Quadrajets resides :sa: :coffee:
Holeshot The genuine Offy adapter is #Ofy-5170, listed for $25 each at Summit & Jeg's part #750-5170. Looks to me like they come with them & the prv owner of yours didn't include them for you...
Holeshot OK - here's another, Offy-5832, $85 a pair from... http://www.offyparts.com/product_info.php/cPath/3/products_id/260?osCsid=8d4a86f1855cfe86a06e77eb233d8a8c (may be the same as prev post) Mounting a pair of Holley 4224 SIDEWAYS is the ultimate for inline 2x4 carb setups as the 4224's throttle blades all open at a 1-1 ratio and the acc pump shot goes in the middle, insuring that all the holes are getting equal flow.
GADJIT98 Holeshot, the sideways mounting is interesting but I dont fully understand the mechanics of how it will make it better. It seems to me that the primaries would be offset on either side under normal acceleration and may starve the cyl furthest from the carb in normal driving conditions....or do you have to modify the carb as well? Do you know of a write up that explains this in detail? Thanks Dave BTW, I now have 2 holley 8007 390 cfm 4160 type carbs :!:
tarior The secondaries and primaries open simultaneously at all throttle positions with that setup. Not good for fuel mileage. :-|
jeep_man_401 I am running the same intake on my Jeep with 2 X 600 Eldbrocks. I have some spacers I used before, but they were for going to a spreadbore pattern. The spaces in the pic should have cam with the intake. Mr. Gasket makes all sorts of spacers and adaptors. But I would shy away from short adaptors (like I had) as the mess with the intake flow.
