Welp, I got sick of the Eddel 1406, and the 2100's I have ran and figure I would give carburators one last chance. I got the 470 Truck Avenger for this 304. The motor is mostly stock, with just an Eddel Intake. Starts right up and really runs very good, exept when I get on it and (I think) the secondaries open. They do move (paperclip trick), and things just totally bog down, loose all power. I put the heavies spring in for the secondaries and still have the same problem. Anybody else have a clue for me? Of course Holley still hasn't got back to me for some tech help, and the store I bought it from is out of business, so I am stuck with a carb that isn't functioning right.

Are you sure the bog is from too much fuel? Could be lack of fuel, try going to a very light secondary spring and see if it does the same thing. I had to use a pretty light spring in my old Holley 600 to get it to run right.
How about timing? Ignition will play a big role. Are the vacuum and mechanical advances both working right? I'd start about 6-10 degrees initial advance with about 32-38 degrees total, all in by 3000 RPM.

I'd second the lighter spring idea. The 470 is a little small for the 304 so you'll probably want to have it open up a little faster.

I'll give that a try, but it seems as trying the heavier spring made it a little better over the standard spring, but I have the lighter springs to try and see if that will make a difference.

I ran it with one new plug to see if I could read lean or rich, deffinetaly looks leak (I was really laying into it so the reading would show secondary effects on plugs). Tried every secondary spring that came in the kit, no change at all.
I completely disassembled this carb, and think I found the problem. Poor Craftsmanship!
One of the secondary jet ports was almost completely blocked by by a little brass peace that is part of teh air vent (or air emmulsion, not sure the exact terms, but it is where the fuel mixes with air before going into the throttle bores). With the proper size punch i drove that brass piece in enough to clear the hole, but it still is not how it should be. So, I will give it another try tomarrow and see what happens.

A blocked passage may be the problem. But the carburetors are supposedly flow tested at the factory so they don't ship out a blocked up carburetor. But, of course, who knows what happened to it since it left the factory.
If the problem isn't the screwed up passage, it could be that you need to step up the jets. If you're running too lean, there's two ways of fixing it.
1. Choke off the excess air.
2. Add more fuel.
By stepping up the secondaries, you've tried #1. But if the engine is trying to draw more air than you're letting, the real solution would be #2.

Welp! I called Holley and told them my delema, that this 470 would just not friggin run on this 304 when I got into the throttle. He fella I spoke with in the Street Avenger group said that their was a misconception that the 470 would work with a V8, that it is meant for the I6's. So he told me to send it in to him and he would send me a new Truck Avenger 670!
It's on, and it runs AWSOME! It really woke this 304 up, it pulls even better than the Eddel 1406 ever did. Can't wait to get it off road and test it there.
