absolutely NOT, I think those things are butt ugly. I think we have golf carts here that are bigger (and probably faster) than those things #-o

those have been big news in the rags we get at the shop (profesional based). we have 2 customers that some how got their hands on the electric versions. smart also has a "high performance" 3 cyl. diesel coupe over in europe the is pretty cool. none of the diesels are coming to the us for awhile because our diesel requirements are very crappy compare the european requirements. as much as we hate to admite it, hybrids, electric, and diesels are the furture.

I spent a couple weeks in germany this spring, and those things were all over the place! Apparently, the diesel motor they have gets 40-50 mpg, where as the gasoliene motor only gets 25-30 mpg. (or so i was told) I saw tons of them cruising on the autobahn and keeping up with traffic pretty well.
I rented an Audi A3 With the diesel, (which isn't available here either) and a 5-speed manual. The car was pretty sporty, and had no problems accelerating up an on-ramp to merge with faaaasssst moving traffic. What really amazed me was over the ten days I had it, it averaged 45 mpg!!! (I checked my math over and over)
I wonder if car manufacturers don't offer diesels here because they think they won't sell? 111!!! I'd buy a diesel A3 in an instant.
Oh, and a side note on fuel prices in germany:
Diesel: About 1.15 Euro's/liter or about $5.50 per gallon!
Gas: About 1.40 Euro's/liter or about $6.65 per gallon!
*gasp*

Nope - European diesel emission standards are much stricter than US. They've been running ultra low sulfur diesel to meet the standards for several years. The problem is the American people. They have the mindset that diesels are slow, smelly, loud, and unreliable. None of which are true any more. I love my diesel truck, and may go for a diesel car when I need a new one.
