93 Grand Cherokee rear end

? Does the rear axle bearings get lubed from the differential or are they sealed & separate? I hear what appears to be bearings needed to be lubed/greased. Thanks, RollBar

they should be getting lube from your diff. muddy water can get into them though and cause a liquid sandpaper effect which will.... well..... i would just say time to replace them. have you changed your diff fluid recently???

Ya, I changed the fluid & added some lucas. hummm, rebuild time.

In most of the semi-floating designs (AMC20, Dana 44, Dana 35), there is an inner and outer seal. The inner keeps the gear lube OUT of the bearing, the outer keeps the grease in. The lube stays in the diff, and the bearing is packed with a high temp grease. SOME 3/4 ton full-floaters do allow the gear lube to the bearings. Bob tufcj

:-| I guess I should have asked if they were innner or outer :idea: but you cannot repack the outers right?? so once you get them mussed up it is still a rebuild on the outers.

Well that makes since Bob since the rear pumkin didn't take much fluid.

I'll pull the axles & see what's up.

P.S. Does the axle have "C" clips, I never delt w/the clips b-4.
