bls33 My jeep is red and black so i was thinking painting the block red and leaving the valve covers black, or maybe just painting the whole engine black with chrome accsesories, any suggestions? i would like to see any pics of your guys painted engines :t:
pyagid Hammerite kicks ass, i use it on everything. My only thing AGAINST painting a motor black, is if there is a leak it is a little tougher to find My dad started with his Yellow, then replaced the shortblock and painted it silver. -Paul
Goose Yea and we still need a source to find AMC blue.. It isn't available around here.. who makes it? I want some.. (I just rebuilt the detroit in my semi and I was thinking it would be kinda cool to paint that AMC blue instead of Detroit Diesel Swamp green.
tufcj The color AMC used until about 72 is available from Seymore (EN-66). I know you can get it from Eastwood. Later engines used a color very close to the "caravelle blue" exterior color. Most automotive paint shops have the formula, and can put it in a spray can. Engine blocks will do very well with a good laquer, it doesn't have to be high temp. I painted my Jeep block red, like the T/A Javelins were (also IH 401s). I always thought it looked nice. Bob tufcj
Goose I never thought about that! Shoot I thought it had to be some "epoxy enamel" crap to hold up.. Duuh.. I tried painting the 360 yellow..didn't work out sorta streaky and splotchy.. went with red also.
bls33 i went with chrysler industrial red, it was slim pickings at the paint place but it turned out nice ill get pics up soon
