Another stupid question

What year did AMC switch from useing an externally regulated alternator to useing an internally regulated unit for the V8 powerplants? need to find an internally regulated alt but dont know what years to start looking for, the alt off my old 4.2 isnt "quite" compatable haveing a shorter mounting boss and smaller bolt hole. Thanks for helping out on yet another stupid question =D>

C'mon Jim. Fabricate. Drill out that hole and use some washers or make a spacer. I had to do the same to make the Bosch alt for my onboard welder fit. You could always go to the GM one wire alt. I'm not sure when AMC went internal. My 77 was external. Bob tufcj

I am fabricateing.......fabricateing a way to get out of fabricateing the alternator mount :!:

Thing is, i need a new alternator anyways, so i thought id try and purchase a plug n go that fits correctly. But i think your right. might be easier to pick up another one like i have now and just spacer the boss and drill out the hole then go on a wild alternator goose-chase. :-|
