Anybody ran one of these on their V8?
Got a chance to pick one up pretty cheap, but i've never heard anything really great about them. Matter of fact, i havent heard much about them at all :-|
Is this a "stay away from" kit?

Some say they wouldn't run Holley if it was given to them...I think some that run Holley are satisified (it seems they are few and far between). The ones I see most on the trail are the Howell or the more expensive Edelbrock.

Is it an analog or digital system? The analog systems aren't worth squat unless they have the $200 closed loop addition to them. Even then, they always take some tweaking, the control box has 3 screws, so it has to be accessible. One of the guys in our club had one, and while we were away from the Jeeps, some greenie hikers twisted all the settings screws to max. :(: When he got back and started the Jeep, at first he couldn't figure out why it ran so crappy, until he tried some adjustment. The digital systems are OK, but you still need to have a laptop, and take some time to dial them in.
Still, I think FI is better than a carb on the trail, so if you're willing to toy with it for a while and the price is right, I'd go for it unless it's the base analog system. That I'd stay away from.

Howell systems are more expensive than the holleys ( actually, kinda in the middle when you throw in the Edelbrock system),but are great performers and the customer service is superior.
Like stated, you need to identify what system it is you're looking at buying. Because if you don't have the closed loop addition the analog system is crap. I personally have not seen a single analog holley work worth a flip for any length of time.
When I build my AMC 360 or 401 I'm going with a Howell system w/4bbl throttle body
hope it works out for you

GM tbi is an easy conversion. I think I had a thread on here about it. Cost me about $200 with a fuel pump.
I've had 2 friends with the holley systems. Both had lots of problems, one switched to tpi (on a chevy 350) the other back to a carb (amc 304).

Thanks for the input.
Once again, my gut was telling me to stay away from the Projection so i thought i'd post here and see what you all thought.
i'll do a search on the GM TBI. Sounds like another option to explore.

I would say it depends on the price of the Projection. I have ran it for ten years in a Jeep with a 360. I had the closed loop which does make all the difference. I never really had any problems but the key is to set it and forget it. I have Howell Fuel injection on my new 401. I really like it just because there is no adjustment. You just put it on and go.
