I am new to the Bulltear site and very happy that I found it. I saw the pics of what I believe is your engine build up within the post "thumper 401". Presently I am considering an engine build myself and was looking for ideas. I am going to base it on either a 360 or 401 block. I want to stay with the AMC v8s. I currently have a 304 in my YJ. I went to 42" tires on 1-1/4 ton axles. I believe with the 727 tranny and the d300 t-case w the 5:89 gears, I have a good crawl ratio to work from. Now I need a potent power plant. Do you have specs on your build anywhere. Did you bore over your block? What pistons did you use? Cam/Crank/Valves???? Are those stock rods? What carb/manifold did you use? PS I like the plumbing set up, very clean. Any thing would help me at this point. I have never done a complete build before and any info would help.

note this motor would be better in a car then a jeep more top end then low end

the block was bored .030 over

the pistons are Ross flat top with floating pins

stock crank balanced

cam I have a crower 292 solid lifter

6090 stock heads factory valves exhaust ported intake cleaned and the bowl cleaned up too

factory rods shot blasted polished and balanced for free floating pins

right now I have the air gap intake and a elde 750 carb going to try a modified torker intake on it next

This is not intended to put my buddy Fuzz's engine down in any way, it is great and I am extremely jealous...of everything but his fuel bill. If you copy the recipe for Fuzz's engine, be ready to spend $13 a gallon for racing fuel to be able to run it. If spending that much for fuel and hauling it home in 5 gallon cans isn't a problem for you, then go for it, but no one had mentioned that an engine like Fuzz's won't run on pump gas and I just wanted to make you aware of that, in case you weren't already. Fuzz built his for one purpose, to go fast, and...MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! You had mentioned trying a different cam than Fuzz used. Be aware that the pistons play a big part in the mix too via compression ratio.
