Crawled under my 2003 Chevy 2500 HD. It doesn't have the 14 bolt or Dana 60 or 70 that I expected. The rear is made by AAM (American Axle Manufacturing).
Anybody know anything about them? Just some quick research shows they also use AAM axles under the Dodge 2500 series and the H2 Hummers. I need to find out if parts exchange and if a locker is available. Hummers use an Eaton electric locker.

probably the AAM 11.50 has an 11.5 inch ring gear and is similar to the 14 bolt that it seems to have replaced should have what looks like a vibration dampner on the pinion or there is the possibility that is the 9.5 inch axle that shouldn't be under an HD but is used under standartd duty 2500's
The 9.5 has a rounder cover but still has 14 bolts the 11.5 should look similar to the FF14 bolt.
good axle very strong probably never going to break it

I could only find a posi for it but it might have come from the factory with a posi already

AAM is the original maker of the "GM" or Corp 14 Bolt that we know and love. These are upgrades to the 10.5 ring gear and the new 11.5 ring gear versions.

one of the offroad magezines had an article on axle comarisons. I gave a good bit of info on the AAM axles. I will try and find the article and what mag it was in. Good reading. I do not believe at this time there is an after market locker that will fit it. Mine did come with a factory limited slip, and rear disc brakes!!!

My 2003 has rear discs. If it's indeed the same axle as the H2, then you can get an Eaton locker for it. I was just hoping that someone made something like a Lock-Right or EZ Locker, but no dice so far.
Do find out what mag that was in, I'd like to read the article.
