Anyone swapped out a 304 for a 360 and pass smog?

Has anyone swapped out their 304 with a 360 and passed smog?...since the engines look the same (except for the '360' on the side of the block) I would assume it would all boil down to whether or not the 360 generated more/enough emissions to fail the sniffer test.

I never had any problem in Colorado. My Jeep was a factory 304, so when they ran the VIN at the test station, it said V8. It always passed the sniff test well within limits. I was running a mild RV cam (Edelbrock), with a Performer manifold and Holley 600 carb (EFI now), smog required stock manifolds w/air pump and a cat. Only one guy ever knew Jeeps enough to look at the engine block. When he asked for the engine swap papers, I just said I didn't have them with me, and went to a different test station. It shouldn't be a problem unless the Jeep was a factory I-6. Bob tufcj

Thanks Bob!...That's the kinda info I was looking for. Mine is a factory 304.

I've got a 77 CJ7 with a 401. It has all the smog junk on and it passes just fine. And this is in Calif.

Great!...thanks!...If a 401 will pass then I know a 360 should also.

One other thing oldscout - is your 401 cam and heads stock???
