I need a resource to find the gear ratios on stock diffs under various jeeps (full size) as I have a 80 wag with v-8 and the J-10 came with a 6.. Im thinking the 6 cyl 4 spd J-10 may have very low gears versus the v-8 auto trans Wag.. But how can you tell, I see no tags.

Well Since my Amc 20's didnt have any numbers on them..I looked on the tags on the fronts and I believe they are d44's (83 wag and 84 J-10)
on the tag there are three sets of numbers. 5359663 on top
The 3-31 on lower left and 43-13 on lower right of tag...
Umm Im guessing this is a 3:31 rear end?
If so the other on is a 2-72..?? holy guacamole.. such confusing stuff.. hrd to believe that a 258 6 cyl in a 6000 lb truck with a 4 speed would have such a high gear..??
Well I'll be gone again for a few weeks.. look forward to all the edumacated responses.. Hasta la Chi Chi

Yup 2.73...the most worthless gear ratio ever invented...not even good for gas mileage unless your traveling on the freeway all the time. The carrier is even unique to it.
