Intake Manifold Gasket

I switched out a stock intake for an edelbrock performer and developed a vacuum leak in the process. I used the stock style metal valley pan gasket (fel pro #ms96011 along with the gaskocinch sp.) and after talking to the tech guys at edelbrock, they told me I was using the wrong gasket. They said aluminum intakes don't seal well with the steel embossed valley pan gaskets and if I riveted the original sheild that came off the stock intake to the edlebrock, I could use regular paper style, 2 peice gaskets. He said use Mr. Gasket #5844 or #800. Will this be alright to not use the steel valley pan gasket if I'm using the stock heat/oil sheild off the stock intake? TIA

These are ok to use?

I was wanting to block off the exhaust crossover in the heads to keep the manifold temps down as i am using electric or manual choke. Whats the best way to accomplish this?

I've never used those gaskets. I've never had a problem sealing the steel ones. I do coat the area around the intake ports with copper "spray a gasket", and the water ports with black or gray RTV (both sides of the pan). Blocking the crossover could cause cold weather flooding problems. The heat helps keep the fuel from puddling in the manifold. Bob tufcj

I have the air gap intake and the valley pan gasket no leaks I used this on the intake ports both sides ( does not harden ) Permatex Gasket Sealer: Hylomar HPF; 29.6 ml and black rtv for the water ports and the end gaskets
