I have a 401 that I'm going to be swapping into my CJ7. It was mated with a TF727. I'm going to be mating it with a T4. I have a bellhousing from my 304/T4 combo that I will be using.
Will I need a new flywheel for the T4? There are no part numbers on the back side of the flywheel/flexplate currently installed on the 401, so I'm not sure what it is, other than it was mated with the TF727.
If I do need a new flywheel, what's the best place to find one?
Thanks,
Zach

A t4 wont last long behind a 401 but if you decide to do it you will need a proper 401 flywheel. You are using a flexplate for the 727 as it had 4 bolt holes in it. A flywheel is a thick (flexplate) but one side is machined for a clutch

Thanks for the quick response.
This is definiately a flexplate then, as there is no mating surface for the clutch.
I know the T4 is a light duty tranny, but it's what I have.
Is my current clutch okay to use with the 401, or is there a heavier duty clutch I should be looking at?
As for the flexplate, any good vendors from which to purchase one?

You can use that clutch it should be fine if its in good condition.
