ironman_gq has anyone used the napa store rebuild kits and if so how are they what is the best kit for the money for an off road engine
SwampRat Napa kits are as cheap as they get, not really up to par for a performance engine. Try www.northernautoparts.com or www.flatlanderracing.com.
ironman_gq how are the fastengineparts.com kits they seem to have a pretty solid list of parts except for the 8.0/1 pistons I think they should be 8.4 but they have a pretty good price. what would you guess shipping would be on a kit
SwampRat Even though I don't have any experience of going through them, I still have to say it's more of what your trying do with the engine your rebuilding and what kind of kit you are looking at (more specifically the brands/quality of parts included in it), that is more important than the distributor. Shipping shouldn't be of concern if your getting a good kit, a few dollars shouldn't stand between a great kit and decent kit.
Mudrat I've gotten a few parts from Maddog Racing AKA: www.fastengineparts.com and can't complain - they have a good business and wouldn't short cut ya on parts. I had the shop size the pistons when they bored the block, but my timing chain, push rods, valves and some bearings came from them. Pat
ironman_gq I'm building an engine that will mostly be used in low rev trail use with the ocassional mud run and road running mostly need parts that will help make power down low but still be solid through the rev range
Mudrat The a good cam like the 8600 or 260H, a set of roller gears, some valve work and then let it breathe via a good intake and exhaust. Roller rockers and lifters won't do you much good until the 5-6K RPM range so that's $$$ not well spent 'Rat
