Mudrat Well found out tonight the spring perches are way different. Tried to put my CJ's already built D30/20 under the YJ replacing the D35 to get away from the vacuum crap and get 2 already rebuilt axles with the right gears under there on the cheap. Yeah I know about the T-case drop - I have an 'extra' D300 for the 999 trans. Well a couple hours of bang'n and cussing, there aint no way other than new perches :smile: ^&%$$#&^%*%&*%$*&^(**%&$*&^$%(*&^)(*&_)*)&*^^*%*^%(*&%*$*$*&^%(*&%^. So what's the next option to get rid of the vacuum crap without going deeper in debt?

Mudrat OK so with this thing, I shift into 4WD and I gt one wheel, I shift this lever and I get a locker? :-| I guess I need to pop this puppy apart and look to see how it's built - or pull up a diagram :oops:
pyagid Well with this, it engages the axle, if you dont have a locker you still wont get front wheel drive unless this is engaged. Power is going to go path of least resistance -Paul
Mudrat The short side axle (short side tube anyway) goes to and thru the diff and mates to the locking coller that also has the long side (tube) shaft going where :-| :-| I'll break out the TSM and see HTF this thing is built. 111!!! Thanks
pyagid the short side goes into the diff and hooks into the carrier. The long side, with the disconnect is actually a 2 piece axle shaft, that the coller from the vaccum activator or what ever you call it, slips a coller over and joins the 2 pieces together. I could post a picture of that tomorrow during the day -paul
Mudrat That's OK, I've got the TSM and the AMC CD that shows me how screwed up a design it is. I'll either do the manual thing or swap the shaft out when I put a locker in it. Thanks though. But I'm still pissed I did all that with out measuring spring perches 111!!! :oops: I'll know better next time ... but the WMS is the same :t:
