CJ8 Dash Conversion to 1955 M170 Jeep

I want to convert the CJ dash but the original M-170 won't fit I think, so Pat suggested that maybe you could make one. I found a insert from 4WDH part number# 7673448, it's a M38 but they should be the same.
Maybe adding the insert to a CJ dash etc. but then again it wouldn't have the glove box on the driverside. HUmmm. The dash would still fasten like the CJ dash, just the center would be different.

You could get really close using a CJ-6 but a 8 will take a custom top.

Ya, I know, the top will come later as I know of a company that hand makes them but for now I was just thinking about the dash. Any ideas or............. Thanks, RollBar

Jim You looking for a stock looking dash for the CJ8/Ambulance? or a custom setup that works for ya?? MC You were punching out CJ dashboards a couple years ago - still doing that (I hope for both Jim and me :mrgreen: )? I'm going to be changing the YJ to a CJ dash style - but keep the angled tach and speedo. Pat

Well I still have the original dash but I didn't want to hack it up. I wanted to insert the into the center of the stock dash the M170/M38 dash and all the components including the glove box on the driverside but keep it the way the CJ mounts on the ends etc. so I could bolt it up. Does this make since?

M38 dash won't work. M38=CJ-3x

An M38A1 will work, or a CJ-5/6 dash will work.

YA, thanks, after I poted I ment to put M38A1. I have been to the G board but no answer yet. Pat said, MC might be able to do this but maybe I just need to get a dash from somewhere.

Thanks, I'm trying to find out if a M170 dash will fit into a CJ8. The Jeeps went up into the 60's, hummmmmmm. From what I hear it will. I'm wondering if the width is the same? What's the O/A dimentions of the CJ and M170? I doubt those two are the same, but a CJ7 and CJ8 will be the same.

Let me get this straight, you're putting a M170 into a CJ-8, or the other way around.

I know someone who is selling an -8 dash.

I'm trying to put a M-170 dash in a CJ8, No one can give me any measurments but they told me it wouldn't work, just like U said.

EVEN if it's to short (side to side) I can weld on side plates and fab it up to work. I just got a email from a guy who MAY have a M38A1 dash in about a month.

Hummmm, we will see.

All most, well basically the CJ6 & 8 are close enought to where I can do the conversion. Maybe I'm just crazzzzy. 111!!!

If all else fails I will but the insert from 4WDH & make a dash. :shock:
