grignac48 I can't seem to find a source to replace my vibration damper. The rubber in the existing one is hard and starting to work its way out. Anyone know where I can get one for a 401 Thanks :sa:
grignac48 Thanks for the info. pablorg, I look for the rubber to be plyable to firm and not cracked or checked, and or slipping out. I had one on an inline 6 that someone used the wrong puller and the outer shell was pulled forward and no longer dimmensionally correct. A failed balancer can cause vibrations in the engine at certain rpm. In my case the rear main seal failed and I had alot of oil loss. I pulled the engine and found the damper bad. Replaced with another and the rear main seal and no further problems. Some of these other guys probably have more experience than I and could tell you how to test it or verify if its not working correctly. :t:
tufcj Mad Dog was selling new ones for about the price of a rebuild. I don't see them on their web site ( www.fastengineparts.com ), but it wouldn't hurt to make a phone call. I've heard nothing but good about Damper Doc. Bob tufcj
Gremlin4ever Do different cubic inch engines require different dampeners or are they all the same in AMC?
tufcj AMC V-8s are externally balanced, so each different displacement has it's own special damper. Up until 73 or 74, they use 3 bolts to hold the pulley, after that, they're 4 bolt. Year doesn't matter, but displacement does. Bob tufcj
