Naturally, the stock cable will not reach the EFI throttle. It is about an inch forward from the stock location. Has someone had the same problem and how did you solve it? Of course, the stock mounting brackets have no mounting location on the EFI manifold. I think I can figure that out. Last, the Grand Wagoneer has a rod type linkage for the kickdown to the TF727. Has anyone converted to a cable kickdown? I am thinking along the line of Lokar brand cables unless there are better solutions.
Thanks

Did you use the Lokar cable for the kickdown? I just orderd the setup and was wondering if anyone had ever used it on a GW.
Thanks.

I used a Lokar throttle cable and engineered the mounting brackets for that and the cruise control. I also used a Lokar kickdown cable. It was easy enough to insall. I made a bracket for the transmission end about 4 inches long to clear some vacuum lines and the vacuum motor to the transfercase. I have yet to find out if anything works. It is some times difficult to get the free time needed and I am so close to done. Reinstall the front clip and the gas tank and have new Y pipe fabbed and I'm set to go.

I am pretty sure that Edelbrock has an extension for that cable. It is in their catalog under "accessories" I think it is called AMC throttle extension or something like that. I would look at my catalog and give you the number, but my buddy has it. (I'll probably never see that catalog again!)
Just my two-cent's worth!

I was discussing the need for an extension or another remedy for the throttle problem with a parts guy at a DCX dealer and he pulled out his (surprise) Edelbrock catalog and he called them and ordered a Jeep application throttle extension. We could not see how this was going to work after examining it when it arrived.

Why was a fabricated bracket necessary for the kickdown cable? Dosen't it come with a bracket that mounts to the transmission?

The supplied bracket was to short to clear vacuum motor and lines. I also wanted a straighter pull on the KD lever.

I really appreciate the info. Thanks.
Could I pester you for just a little more. I have the Lokar carb throttle bracket, Lokar throttle cable, and Lokar kickdown cable sitting on my desk, carb end is hooked up, looks very nice. Two questions:
1. How did you hook the throttle cable end to the GW gas pedal?
2. How do you get the ferrel (braided cable housing end piece) off and re-asembled to shorten the cable? Seems to be pressed on at the factory.

The top end of the rod attached to the pedal has a hole that a nylon bushing fits into. The cable fits in this bushing. There is a slot through the side of the hole to allow the cable to be inserted. The cable has a stop crimped on to one end of the cable. This is the pedal end and is put through the nylon bushing. The fittings on the cable housing are slip fit over the housing (at least on the carb end). My throttle cable has the black cover. I used a hacksaw to cut. For braided housing, the cutter to use is a cable cutter with bypassing jaws (like a scissors).

Thanks. That makes good sense for the gas pedal end. Really helps.
I guess I did not make myself clear on the shorten the cable deal. I have no trouble cutting the cable. I will use an air tool cutter just like I do for an lines. There is a ferule on the carb end of the cable that basically just covers the braided line and makes everything look finished. Does not seem like the ferule wants to come off. Was the ferule on yours loose? I am going to have to put it in a vise to get it off and really would not rather scratch it up.

Re read your post and I think you answered my question. The fitting on yours was slip fit. Mine is stuck. Guess I will use a bigger hammer. Probably crimped up in the braided cable housing. I noticed you used the black housing.
Thanks.
