distribution wear out

hello
i now the topic about distribution wear
i could not find the answer to my problem

ihave a 304 from 1979
my friend has also a 304 from 1979 (the same)
i swapt the distribitur in 1 peace
after 750 meters the gear were totaly worn out (see pics) :smile:

it looks like there is no oil coming there,but is funny if its hapend at the same time i swapt the distribitur :dontknow:

i flusht distribitur housing and refresht oil and filter
what could be the cause of this

I think I read on here not too long ago that there is two diffrent types of gears. mabey you got a mis matched set?

You should always replace the cam and distributor gear together as a matched set. The gears develop a set mesh. Even though they're from the same year and displacement, slight machining differences make that mesh different. By replacing one and not the other you disturb that mesh, especially using a used gear against another used gear. Sometimes you can get away with it, most of the time you can't. Replace both with new gears and you should be good to go. Bob tufcj

i hope that the last answers are the right one i have put a drilling machine on my oil pump and after a long while there is coming a drop of oil uit the gear on the camshaft(i look trough the hole of the fuelpump) a have just start her up and i can¬¥t see any oil coming ore squerting around i don¬¥t now how much oil there supoost to be going around in the housing,ore on the gears,is a drop now and then enough?? thanks

its up and running now but there is not alot of oil coming out of the cam gear i toke off the fuel pump to see whats happening with the gears (its running on natural gas) its getting wet but no oil is dripping off 111!!! is that ok ?? or is there something clogged oil pressure is between 40 and 60 psi i drove it about 30000 miles with no problems i didnt take off the timing gears or something thanks willem,is learning english fast :wink:

Did you recently replace the top timing gear? There were some that had casting flash in the oil passage. Oil flows from the front cam bearing through slots in the cam gear and fuel pump eccentric out to the cam gear. There are small oil holes between the teeth. The washer in the front needs to be correct to seal the oil in. You need to make sure the slots are clear and that they align correctly. There won't be a large oil flow, as long as there's some oil, you should be good. Bob tufcj

i made a extra oil line from the pressure line to te top of the timing cover
so now there is alot of oil coming on the gears,oil pressure is stil between 40 and 60 psi
