okay here is where i am at.just replaced cam and lifters and put in lighter valve springs.the old cam ate a lobe and a lifter.summit tech line said my vavle springs were to stiff.when i went to break in the cam at first the oil pressure came up pretty good and within about a minute it went down to almost nothing so i shut it down.i tore apart the oil pump and cleaned it all out with carb cleaner and made sure the plunger worked freely put it back together and ran it with the drill i got about 10 pounds on the gauge.i also took off a vavle cover to see oil coming out of the push rods.so i put it all back together and started it up i still have 0 oil pressure ran it for about 30 seconds with the vavle cover off the oil is coming out of the push rods but just barely.i bought a secound pressure gauge to confirm this.today i took off the main bearings and they look new atleast the bottom halves of them.is there a way i can check the clearences in my oil pump to make sure it is not wallowed out to far.any other ideas.there was alot of metal in the oil pan i cleaned it all out and i cleaned up the pickup.thanks for any ideas.

Just a thought....what about the bottom of the distributor? Is the piece going across the bottom to spin the oil pump? Just a thought - maybe it broke off? I say that if your drill is able to create oil pressure, then your distributor should be able to also. :-| :-| :-| :-|

Boy you sure are having a run of no luck on this one Steve. Were your cam bearings in good condition?

yeah the cam bearings i could see looked good.and the journels on the cam that i took out looked good also.is there any way to spec out the oil pump.

Make sure all the lifters are in their bores cause you'll lose all your pressure if one comes out. I fought the same problem until I finally oulled the valve covers and found a broken rocker arm which let the lifter come out. It won't hurt to look.
