i am having problems with keeping my rockers adjusted in the 360.it is a new rebuild as many of you probably already know from all my other problems i have posted about.i am running new edelbrock heads bought complete(all new).i ran the oil valley line, summit 8601 cam and lifters and crane rockers and hardend push rods.the other day it started to run like shit.i pulled off the driver side valve cover and the second to last rocker was not moving i adjusted it and it was still popping exhaust back through the carb.so i took off the pass side cover and i has a broken rocker stud,i replaced it and adjusted all the rockers on the motor.since then i ran it about 3 miles and it is happening again.i have not tore into it yet but it sounds like the same thing is happening.my only guess is the lifters are not staying pumped up but i am not sure.any ideas on how to fix this.does it have anything to do with the valley line taking oil from the top end.im ready to set fire to the jeep.i need to get this fixed before next weekends mudbog.help me please before i lose my mind.also i am running a napa gold filter and 10w30 castrol.

Check that cam! I put a 360 together a few years ago with a summit cam. It went flat pretty quick and iron particles circulated through the engine, I actually had a couple of valves seize in the guides :(:

Did you check the seated pressure of the valve springs? I know you shouldn't have to, but some of the early production Edelbrock heads were shipped with very heavy springs. That could be causing your studs to break. If you've run it a while, it could have wiped out your cam lobes.
Just something to check.

the one thing i keep coming back to is when i blew my tranny i was way up in the rpm's and i mean way up maybe 8 to 9 grand.i may have hurt the lifters.in the morning i am going to talk to a very trusted engine builder that i know.maybe he has some answers for me.thanx for the help so far, you guys know your stuff.

oh yeah it ran fine before i blew the tranny.i put probably 150 miles on it with no problem.if the cam was wiped out wouldnt it have ran poorly even after adjusting the rockers for the third time.there is plenty of oil coming out of the push rods so i dont think the oil line is the problem.i dont know its late and my head hurts.i am taking the valve covers off tommorrow ill let you know what i find.THIS SUCKS.

I had some head work done that involved cutting the spring seats, the seat pressure was 105 lbs, 385lbs @.521" IIRC, It was running relatively well until the #1 exhaust valve seized at about 5500 rpm, the pushrod broke into three pieces.

i tore it apart today and the cam is wiped out.any suggestions on a new cam.i dont think i am going with another summit cam.

I like and trust Crane and Competition. Comp's cams are so good, that I have reused old lifters without regard as to which lobe they came off (before I knew better, I was like 19) with absolutely no problem.
Don't make the same mistake that I did and just wipe down the lifter valley and change the oil and filter. Pull the motor, and tear it down and thouroughly clean out all of the iron particles. If you don't, your bearings will be toast in less than 5000 miles

Break it in with single, or stock springs.

Summit evidently sells a lot of those cams, so some people must be getting them to work, but I have had two go flat on me :(:
I have never had any trouble with Crane or Comp, even when I do something stupid like re-use old lifters or break it in with 385lb springs installed.

mudrat, use crane or comp cams.
