it was an AMX 2 seater dark metallic green you know the one with the little bar down the rear window believe it was 68 or 69 model with a 390 v-8 and a torque command auto tranny , steel mags and the large AMX on the rear pillars. got her from a crazy pot smoking old dude up the street from where i lived when i was in high school back in the early 70's. talk about fast 'vettes and the camaro z28 you know that one two( yes the orginail ) would run and hide from these as you looked for them one those friday night street races. :?

My first AMC is my 87 GW. The wife was pregnant with the first kid and said we needed a station wagon with wood sides like her family had (Ford). I said I know what we can get! Found a white with wood in about a week and it became ours. 13 years later it's still goin' strong as the family truckster only now lifted, mechanically rebuilt, ARBs, 3.92s, Thorley headers, Holley carb, Eldebrock Performer, HEI, reupholstered, 32x11.50s. chuck 87 GW 96 XJ

Hey Chuck - welcome to the board! I just got an 88 GW that is now begining resurection ... ok maybe it's just restoration :wink: Did you get a TSM and if so from where? I've been hitting all the normal spots (via Google) but haven't found a place that has a Technical Service Manual for an 88 Grand. :smile:

My first AMC was 1970 BBG Javelyn, Big tires on back , smaller ones on front ( you know that 70's look) 304 auto, put a 360 in it and some bum in aVW Bus sideswiped into a bridge. Tom

first one i drove was my dad's 78 j20 that he bought new, if i remember correctly the first one i owned was the 87 commanche that i bought from my dad, after i sold it i went several years without any amc's, i now have an 87 j20 resto project, and several fsj parts trucks, one of which is the 78 that died of a broken frame.

first one was a 76 i think.j-10 pickup drove it for about 2 weeks and it caught on fire and burned to the ground.#2 was a 78 cj5 with a 304 it was a good jeep drove it for about 10 years it still sits in the back yard.and now another 78 cj5 that i am trying to work the bugs out of my new motor in.

Mine was a free 83 Concord 4dr, dark blue with a 232. 2nd was a 67 Rambler, but it was a mess. I used a 68 Javelin shell for a race car way back too. Now I have a 77 J20, a 74 Gremlin shell that's going to get a 401 to go drag racing, and an 82 SX4 that's getting converted to 2wd, with a 360 for circle track racing. I am also on the trail of a 70 Rebel machine, and hunting for another 68 Javelin. My goal some day is to win in all three types of racing in my town, all in AMC's.

My first was an 82 J10 that had over 300,000 miles on the 258 it had and the rear main didn't exsist anymore. When it gave up the ghost I stuffed a 250,000 mile 258 in it and a month or two later my brother borrowed it and wrapped it around a telephone pole :smile: . It bent the frame and everything. The doors still opened and closed like nothing happend though. :shock: My first was supposed to be a 70 MD Javelin, 360 auto but dad said it was too fast. After smoking a rousch mustang on 6 1/2 cylinders I don't blame him. I ended up with a 75 400 4spd Trans AM instead. The night we bought the Jav was the night we raced the rousch, we got home and found that one plug wire was freyed in half and another was melted to the header. :?:

my first was a '76 Gremlin that I got from my sister. 6 cyl, 3 speed. If you would start banin' gears too hard it would get caught between 1st and 2nd. poor setup! Did gety stopped going 82 mph once(going uphill and all)! #-o

First AMC.. Hmm I bought a Gremlin X from a kid up the street who had "Tuned it up" put new wires and plugs in it.. Heh heh it would barely run.. Then bought a 74 fire engine red 4 door hornet 360 4 speed.. the sleeper!.. Got caught in the gremlin..drag racing..had just pounded a 69 GTO and unfortunately the COP had been sitting at the light behind us when we took off..Sorta hard to lie out that.(He did say If I had'nt stopped he would never have caught me..but he caught the Goat)

My sleeper was a '73 Matador, with an exceptionally strong running 360/auto. My first AMC, it was that damn car that prevented me from being a member of the Chevy crowd :(: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

My old '65 CJ5 notwithstanding.....
I got my '84 CJ7 back in the spring of '91 from the stealership. Bone stock (plus Cal emmisions) 150cid 4 banger, T5, D300.

I rebuild the 4cyl once, and drove the hell out of it after installing a mild 2.5" lift and some 32" Swampers. after burning up an exhaust valve, i decided to rebuild a 258 and "drop" that in....learning allll about 'bolt-ins' along the way #-o . But the motor was nice....833 pistons, 264 Comp cam, TFI, Weber. Added 2.5 more inches of lift, bigger Swampers, one piece axles, locked the front and rear, trimmed up the fenders, and started on some bodywork/paint-by-Krylon.
After the T5 took its 2nd dump, i went with a T18a. Enough wasnt enough, so i did a 4.0L headswap w/Clifford intake, 500CFM Edelbrock, XJ header.......ran like a gorilla with its pooper on fire.
So here i am now, detonated a piston skirt on the 258 and a buddy offered me a sweet deal on a freshly built 401 out of a J10.....now thats what i call "drop-in" :!:
3rd engine with rebuilds inbetween.....this jeep's seen Hell and back, and it aint done yet by a longshot. :lo1l:
