another 401 problem with the scorpion rockers helpppppppp!!!

ok once again i smacked into a brick wall with my 401, this time the problem is the scorpion rockers are bottoming out on the hex part of the stud, now the heads are stock amc heads that have been machined for rockers and guide plates, i am using hardend smc push rods, i called scorpion they say push rods are to short to use longer push rods, i think there is something missing just doesnt look right maybe wrong studs ( i actually thought it was a collapsed lifter and pulled the intake and all are ok) help..........

ok after 6 phone calls scorpion says push rods to short, 2nd from amc builder says improper machine work on the pedistals they were not machined enough for the thickness of the guide plates, plus wrong guide plates then he basiclly said i am stupid for using that bull sh*t method of heads when i should have used the early model single rocker head and converted it over, and 4 other calls to various places about rocker studs, as far as i can tell with the rocker on these heads i would need about a 1/4" longer push rod maybe slight more, so this is going to keep the rocker up off the hex part of the rod, well i am going on a quest for longer push rods and if this doesn't work 2200.00 dollars in 401 stuff is getting pushed off the pier and in goes the nissian turbo diesel

if you are going to push the 401 off the pier just push it a little father north to pa :?

what studs did you use and what guide plates did you use ?
it should be milled the thickness of the guide plate

if needed I know a machinst in NJ that knows AMC motors and races them he does all my work and is good at it

I have crower roller rockers on my 401 with the 6090 heads and still had to go with a .080 + longer push rod any time you change rockers or get heads done the push rod length should be checked to keep the rockers in the right place

myself I would of gone with crower - crane or harnld sharp rockers too many places list rockers for amc and they are close but not right

thanks it has been narrowed down to the longer push rods,after a few beers and tire kicking with other gear heads that is what it came down to, thanks for you help

AMc V-8 pushrods are the same length as SBC (7.790" I think). I ended up using .100" longer pushrods on my 69 390 to get the right rocker geometry. Those are easy to find and fairly inexpensive. Bob tufcj
