Tried getting wireless in the airports, hotels, coffee shops, gotta buy their service at each one - except Newport News, just need your last name and flight number. Couldn't "see" the Embassy Suites or the Holiday Inn from where we were - I kept getting a peer-to-peer connection but no link to the Net. And the coffee shop was Cingular at $10 a day unless you wanted to sign a contract 🙁:
But it was the trip home from HELL! Left the hotel at 4:30 San Diego time and got home about 1AM Norfolk Time. First flight was due out at 6:20 - delayed to 8:30 then to 10 then cancelled. We got put on a US Airways flight leaving at 12:50. Pushback was 15 min late then as we were on the taxi way, weather delayed some inbound flights, then the fog cut the minimums so we sat at the end of the runway for an hour. The pilot shut down the engines because, "we are nearing the minimum fuel load to take off and I don't want to pull back in to refuel". Good call!! When we finally got to Charlotte we had a touch and go because the flight in front of us hadn't cleared the runway - after a quick chirp of the tires we were airborne again.
Because of the delays we missed our connection in Charlotte and got put on the 11pm flight getting into Newport News just after midnight and home just before 1AM.
Finally got to sleep about 4AM (nerves/travel jitters/hot and sweatty 90+ in the house) and up at 9:30.
