Help me pick a cam

Ok, I am building a 401 for my cherokee. I have all the machiene work done and I am down to picking a cam for it. I am wanting this engine to have as mutch low end torque as I can get, I want it to have great low end power and a good mid range too. This engine will probably never see above 3k rpm. So I want most my power to be either below or around that rpm. That is what I am looking to get out of this engine, now I will list its specs so far. Bore: 40 over Heads: stock, with stock rebuild/valve job Pistons: stock type replacement (stock compression) weight matched Rings: moly Crank: 10 under, polished, and balanced with my flywheel and balancer Rods: stock with them weight matched and whatever else they would have doen to them to go along with the complete balance job. I am also gonna get all new pushrods, rocker arms and piviots/bridges, cause the old ones look like crap and are mis-matched. Gonna get a new timing cover, I replaced the alighnment pins with new ones that are 1in long. I'm gonna use a rollmaster timing set. The intake will be a holley street dominator (it is currently on my 360) carb is gonna be a holley truck avenger 670cfm. Probably will get one of your guys matched cam/dizzy gear sets. Everything is done and is waiting to be put together, I just need to get the last remaing parts to finish it (cam/lifters, pushrods,rocker arms/piviots, timing cover timing set, etc...) The general masses seem to be pointing me to the comp cams 260H. Would this be the best choice for my engine and what I am wanting out of it? Thanks for any help/advice you can give me.

I would run a 256HXE here are the specs 260H intake 260 exhaust 260 duration 212 intake 212 exhaust lift .447 intake .447 exhaust 110degee seperation 256H intake 256 exhaust 268 duration 212 intake 218 exhaust lift .477 intake .484 exhaust 110 degree seperation The 256H is now the choice for low end grunt if you choose a comp cam...I dont even know why they would offer the 260H anymore...those specs are close but the 256H works great with stock to mildly ported heads 256H pt number for a AMC is 10-214-5 we sell these for $135.00 ea. but you can pick them up anywhere.

Oh yea, forgot to mention, that I have no idea what all that means. NOT A CLUE... :razz: lol It may as well be written in a foreign language. Thats why I figured I would ask someone who knows what all that means, and have them give me a reccomendation.
As for the price, does that include lifters? or are they seperate.

Lifters are seperate...I would run the 256 as it wokrs better with the heads than the 260.......the 260 is closer to a chevy grind that a AMC

A 260 is a smallish comp cam. Really too small for a 401. But will make a lot of torque. A 270 is the next size up, more top end, less bottom end. Desktop dyno shows the 256H as having the torque like a 260, but a little more horsepower, almost as much as a 270.
