First, I would like to thank everyone who makes this site possible. The amount of information available is great. I'm new to this site and this posting stuff so please forgive any screw ups. My current project is a 79 j20. I want to go through the motor, transmission and transfercase. I also have a complete 76 Chief for parts. They both have a 360, th400 and quadra-trac. I use the j20 alot and don't want it in the shop for very long. Will everything from the Chief bolt directly into the j20? It "looks" like everything will bolt up. I just need to know of any major differences between 76 and 79. Thanks in advance. 79-j20

Its will all bolt up...no difference that you will notice

Nope, as MC said, it will be an easy swap. Let us know if you run into any problems!

Only big difference I can think of between the 76 and 79 engines would be the ignition systems. Use the dizzy out of your 79 in the 76 and you'll be good to go.
