yep, i'm a newbie. I've got a 1973 Gremlin. I love it; currently creating a 401, but need a crank and rods. I don't really want to resort to ebay specials, but if i have to... anyone know of a source for either for under $10k?

Go down to your local NAPA, tell them you want a 401 crank kit. They should be able to come up with one. They should also have reconditioned rods. You may have to eat the core charges, but it will be way less than $10K. You should be able to find a good builder 401 complete for under $1000. There was a complete built engine on ebay a while back for $5995 BIN.

I got mine from Ebay and may get a complete engine in the future from Ebay as well.
