I imagine it could if you sat still, went slow or had a small Rad. I'm more interested in keeping the crud from building up from the trees around here and 'stuff' from rolling back under when I get wet and maybe mitigate some of the rattle of hood on body noise. Besides that little bit of sealing area between the hood hinges wouldn't account for much air flow I would think. The 85 had one I took out and the 87 is stock from the factory with one (same motor) so I don't think the engineers considered it a big deal.
