both the front cam bolt and the harmonic balancer bolt in my 304 has some crappy threads on them. can I just get some good grade 8 bolts to replace, or do these have to be application specific?
thanks

A gr.8 bolt should work just watch the length on it so it does not bottom. out before it is tight

Does the crank have bad threads? You can always ehlicoil the harmonic balancer but to do it right and keep it balanced it must be in a machine. What CID engine is it?

it is a 304. I chased the threads in the crank and they appear to be halfway decent now, I also found a g8 hex head bolt that is the same length as the OE crank bolt, hopefully it will hold

Generally the only cause for the bolts to mess up is someone using them as an installation tool instead of their proper function.
