Brand new(rebuilt) AMC 360...Edelbrock carb keeps filling the crankcase with gasoline=bad. The way I see it I have three options rebuild current carb, buy new carb, pony up for fuel injection.
I hear nothing but bad about the edelbrocks...is it worth rebuilding? What other carb is going to work "out of the box" and work well in all situations?
Are the current offerings of FI worth the coin and do they really out perform the carb options?
Any and all input welcome.

I would say you have a float problem or fuel pressure iissue, I Love the edelbrock carbs.. I have had tremendous luck with them.. IF you get too unhappy with yours, Shoot me a pm I'd probably buy it from you reasonable.. (need one for the CJ5)

Are you sure it's the carb, and not the fuel pump? I've seen fuel pumps with bad diaphrams pump fuel into the crankcase. Give it a check.
As for EFI vs. carb....No comparison....I ran a Holley for years. It was well tuned for the engine, but even with all the off-road mods, it would still sputter or stall when the Jeep was extreme nose down or bounced the front quickly (like dropping off a step ledge).
I put on a Howell-EFI system about 5 years ago. Except for a bad O2 sensor, it's been flawless. It starts easier, idles smoother, and runs at any angle (even upside down :?: don't ask). I also picked up about 1 MPG, and it self compensates for altitude when we go into the mountains. It was about $1250 to my door back then with everything but an air filter and fuel lines.
You can buy the system from then in parts. A buddy bought just their CJ wiring harness, TB adapter, and PROM for about $500, then scrounged the TB, sensors, and computer from local boneyards.

Not a big fan of Edelbrock carbs for off-road, sidehill & uphill especially. I ran into sticking needle even on new carb. The AFB is little better except needles are clipped to floats.
Also ran into major flooding problems when I wasn't running a return line, even tho the electric fuel pumps I tried were supposedly self-regulating. Too much fuel pump pressure? Too much pump flow rate?

I too say no edelbrock. I got a almost free one for my boat because it was terrible offroad. The only carbs I've seen good things from offroad are the webers (for small motors), 2 barrel motorcrafts, and quadrajets. So if you're gonna stick with a carb on a 360, get a quadrajet and run it with a spreadbore intake to square bore carb adapter turned upside down.
But my fuel injection cost less than a rebuilt quadrajet.

Never tried to rebuild a Qjet but how hard can it be?
I can vouch for Motorcraft 2150... (presumably 2100 and Holley 2v as well). I have heard some good stuff about Holley Truck Avenger ... anyone have experience with 'em?
I have EFI waiting to go in but... I'm often tempted to just go Qjet or Truck Avenger if I can find one for ~ $200 or less. There are even days I think about going back to a 2150.

I've decided to stay carbed for now and I've narrowed it down to one of three carbs either a brand new Edelbrock Quadrajet, the new Holley Truck Avenger, or a rebuilt Jet performance QJ stage 2. http://www.jetchip.com/fuel/streetmaster750.cfm
Any experience with the Jet carb or opinions either way.
Thanks.

I would say fuel pump was dumping fuel into the crankcase. Carb bolts directly to the intake, and I dont beleive there are any passages from there to the crank, is there? Help, anyone?
I to have a beautiful Edelbrock Pro-flo sitting in garage on engine.
Dealing with another issue. grrrrrr. ran beautifully for the 50 miles I 've had it on the road.

I replaced the fuel pump first thing and ordered the Truck Avenger last week should be here Monday or Tuesday....

Let us know what you think of the new carb once you get it installed....

Finally installed it yesterday morning...took all of twenty minutes to replace the Edelbrock with the Holley...zero issues. Fired right up, idle is a bit erratic but no stumbles. Drove the Jeep...very smooth. Secondaries "transition" in with no lag or hesitation.
There's pretty steep hill near my house with several deep ruts that run accross the trail diagonaly...the suspension is crossed up both ways all the way to the top...not one sputter or miss up or down the hill.
If I can get more done on the Jeep this week, I'll take it to a local ORV area and see how it works sideways. I'll probably also get the carb tuned on the dyno as well.

According to our 2005 Edelbrock catalog they discontinued the quadrajets. They may still have a few. I would rather shave my head with a cheesegrater while chewing on tinfoil than Actually call and ask them. They don't give good phone. I did notice that they are making a "classic style" valve cover for AMCs. It has "new "printed right over it in the catalog in red letters! I mustered up the nerve to call and ask about them because they are not on the brand new price sheets we just received. The person on the phone told me they must be discontinued because they are not in the brand new price sheet. I told her they were in the catalog with"new" printed over it in red letters. She didn't know anything about it. There is no picture of it in the catalog, but the Chebby and Flord ones are bitchen. I'm gettin some for my Nova fo' sho'. I was gonna paint the old school Edelbrock logo red, but if I do I'm afraid I just might snap every time I open the hood and think about crappy customer service!
