A 86 CJ-7 jeep rear dana 44 w/stock. 2.37 gear ratio that I just bought & getting next week.
Question: this carrier can hold a 3.54 or 3.73 gear correct. I think so but I'm not sure of the carrier break for this axle.

The 44 case split is 2.72 - 3.73 and 3.92 - 5.38. So yes, your current carrier will work with 3.73s. The 86 CJ dana 44 is an odd duck. It uses the AMC 20 bolt pattern on the brake backing plates (4 bolts) instead of 6 bolts that other 44s used.

Thanks Bob, @ least it's a direct bolt up in stead of the Scout that the guy backed out on.
