LRRP = Long Range Recon Patrol A "different" type of Special Forces. Type in the acronym "LRRP" in your search engine. You can get an idea of what we were all about.

LRRP = Nerves of steel+Balls of solid titanium+guts of tungsten steel and adrenal glands the size of baseballs.. I have a few friends who became friends while they were on a lurp team..I have heard some of the stories and if only 50% is true..You be one tough hombre and have my respect..( I would have simply shat myself and went on permenant sick call after some of those missions).

We had some pretty "interesting" situations to be sure. "Nerves of steel?" I am not sure about that. In my humble opinion, and speaking from personal experience - nobody really thought about being "gutsy" or "brave". Most of the time we spent being just as scared as the next guy. I guess it boils down to how people handle pressure. Any LRRP that tells you they were not scared is either a liar or nuts. Having said that, I have to add that during that period of my life I never felt more alive and alert. My two surviving buddies from my unit agree. While I spent a good deal of that time in sheer terror I wouldn't trade that experience for anything...

Pretty amazing how sharp and clear everything becomes when that switch in your head clicks over from "what am I going to do tomorrow to will I be alive in the next 5 minutes" And these two guys I was talking about generally make it clear they were scared a lot of the time..The amazing thing to me is they were able to just keep going back time and again. thats more the guts and balls I was talking about. (or perhaps as they put it "the complete lack of smarts" to lay low and "profile thier way through it" ) that to me is courage, being terrified but doing it anyway.
