Goose wroteHEH HEH My Lab is the queen of schizos.. If you turn on a cieling fan or a flashlight she goes ape. New people oh no thank you stands 30' away and barks.. BUT and the reason the fruit loop is still here is she will stand between anyone or anything and my 5 year old..Rattle snakes, strangers other dogs she absolutely ripped a german shepard to bloody tatters cause he came over to the park while the kids were playing tag and started chasing them..She is a coward and spooky as heck everywhere but where it counts! I have never figured her out but I will put up with the jokes about courage the cowardly dog as long as she protects him..
When my kids were little, we has an 82 lb lab/shep mix. She wasn't skittish though. Neighbors kids used to shoot bottle rockets across the yard. She wouldn't flinch. If a ground squirrel popped up, she hit the patio until the coast was clear. If anyone unknown got remotely close to the wife or kids, she'd be there in a flash making sure there was room between them.
This husky "queen of the yard" mix that we have now thinks everything outside with either fur or feathers is a toy. She stalks everything.
