  :-| strange, very sad, after the story a while ago where the guy got it with a hook, i don't want to use any straps with metal hooks.

i only use hooks that have a safety catch on them. here at boeing that it the only type of hook allowed especially since we lift very large sections
of c-17's with cranes.

He was riding a quad and carrying the strap bandalaro style (over one shoulder and under the other arm) It got wrapped around the axle and they think it broke his neck and killed him almost instantly. Almost everyone I ride with have a strap or tow rope wrapped around the front end of thier bikes so we do not have to leave anyone or run back to camp. I don't think this guy did anything wrong, he just had an accident.
On a side note they did not need a tow, they got the bike running and rode it back to camp. Someone said the rider forgot to turn on the gas. I do not know anyone involved, there has been some info on a sand board that I go to.
