Shackle reverse

Since I did the M.O.R.E. shackle reverse THEN decided to slide new D44's under the CJ 111!!! I had to remake the brackets. I wanted to keep them removable so I fabbed and drilled everything with that in mind.

I needed to move 1.87" each side outboard and swapping sides would have been just over 3" each side, so I decided to make a new plate, weld to the existing (bling) mounts and then stiffen the outter plate. This is what I came up with - - - and how I got there.

Here's an since I've finally been able to get back to work on the CJ, SOA project.

Rear perch welded in, but not braced

I think I may have a problem here?? The tie rod is only ₁/4 in above the spring on the P-side, but about 1" on the drivers side? And I need a new drop pittman that will fit the 3/4" Heim joint :shock:

OMG! Is that an actual bulltear shakle?? I don't believe it! What's the temp over at satan's house? Did he turn the air on? 8) Anywho, man that rig looks great Mud! I need to get my rear in gear and come out there to help you take it out for the maiden voyage! So should I bring the bottle of champagne to break on her bumper.....oh wait, better make that a bottle of Natural Light-we are all red necks you know! :razz: Keep the pics coming!!

First; YES it is a BT shackle - Actually I have 2 complete sets 1 for the CJ and 1 for the YJ.
Second; You bring 'diet beer' and your sleeping in the shop instead of the couch!!! It's dark or nothing (though your homebrew wasn't bad for a pilsner)
Three; I've offered you my bench and air tools so you can port and polish - anything bigger will have to wait :shock: (but not much longer :? :? :?

Yeah yeah - Going around the Horn, with stops in various South American ports in several countries - tough life :? At least you'll get your shellback certificate :lo1l: But jsut because your going through the Straight of Magellan dosen't get you the Certicicate of Magellion - you have to circumnavigate the GLOBE for that.
And I don't hae any cider left :smile: I MAY have some Amber Bock though :t:

I might have to take you up on the head work. I still need to get a valve spring compressor to get my old valves out first. Anyone know of a good place to pick up some replacement valves and locks as a set? Anywho, good work and can't wait to see all the new goodies you picked up today!

OK -

Got the outboard perches done and in, started with the drag link and tie-rods. May have a problem.

Got the new heims on the rods and the rods on the Jeep. Used the new conical offset spacers. Concerned they are going to allow to much stress on the bolt though??

And - the Drag-link

Looks like a 2" drop arm would do the trick. The DRAG (hehehe) is that the pitman arm needs to have a 3/4" hole to fit the heim joint.

Anybody have any suggestions on where to get one that fits the standard GM sector shaft but has the 3/4 hold in it for the drag link??

ALSO, I'm going to have to add some angled shims to the front axle. With the spring reverse and the length of the shackle, the drive shaft is at 15 deg and the axle is only at 10. Basically the axle is now paralell with the ground instead of turned up to meet the transfer case :smile:

MC ... got any 5-6 degree 304 or 316 shims laying arround :?

Pat, Try contacting Sam of Sam's Off Road in OK (www.samsoffroad.com). He has someone that makes him heavy duty steering arms.

He might be able to help you out in someway. Real cool guy - has a killer CJ7 on 39 boggers with lots of HP. :t:

I still say go with the one inch spacer instead of the cones - looks like it would be a lot stronger. I think the bolts will fine most of the time, but would suck if one broke on the interstate! :shock:

Or you might be able to fab a bar up on top to reinforce it. Maybe get some longer threaded rods (dang it, forgot the correct name) that hold the arm to the knuckle. Just another idea. I still say that the spacer is the way to go.

Oh well, that's just my .02. I am just jealous that your shizn!t is almost done and mines still in tons of pieces! :smile:

Thanks Jack, 'Sams' must really like those pittmans - at $120 each! And I HAVE the spacers, the offset cones are for articulation of the Heim joint. Agree it would suck ANYTIME if they broke, that's why I went 3/4" grade 8 bolt (they were 5/8's), over 30K lbs//ft of clamping and 120K ft//lbs of shear strength for a Jeep that may top out at 3K pounds loaded w/ pax :-) By the way that's the drag link between the pittman and the steering arm on the knuckle. It's a tierod between knuckles :wink: Mudrat
