MILLER - and to a lesser degree Hobat. Lincolns are OK but too pricy for what you get. I worked in a pipe/pressure vessel fab shop in high school and Millers are the only brand that everyone swore by.
For my jeep projects I bought a Millermatic 175. 220V, 30A Mig welder. Enough juice to weld up to 1/4" (with the voltage maxed out mind you). The 110V welders are only good for sheet metal.
