where and what kind of deal did you get on the miller welder, and what are the specs? i'm looking for one to use on my plow truck project, and a little on the wag also.

I got a Millermatic 175 off ebay for $640 with free shipping. They are all over ebay for a buy it now of $658 but i happened to catch this one as it was closing so I bid up to the $658 i would have payed for one of the others. And won.

Locally they tend to go for about $700

I have used a friends 135 and another friends 175 the 175 was much nicer.

as i have hear the 210 is even better, But that was double the cost of the 175.

I also was considering the Hobart and Lincoln. Hobart does not have infinate adjustablity like the miller. And the lincoln was a little more expensive

seemed to me the miller was best welder for the price

thanks for the reply, :sa: i've been looking on ebay also, at cheaper units, i'm just trying to find something to get me started as inexpensive as possable, i'm also trying to figure out what's reasonable for a cutting/welding torch, as i have an old one i may send in for repair, but don't want to spend too much on an old unit. :-|

I forgot to mention my Miller is brand new. The price difference for me between a smaller unit and the unit i got was not worth the quality difference. I also split the cost with my Dad which helped. We are probably looking for a oxy acetalene. set up soon as well. -paul

I just had a similar conversation with my welding instructor at college on Saturday, the Miller 175 is good for the weekend welder or garage mechanic the 210 is for more of a shop where it will get used on a more regular basis.

i've been looking around a little tonight, looked on ace hardware outlet site they have a cutting/welding setup for $269, i think if i can get the one i have fix for $100-$150 range i'm going to do it, still searching for a welder, thanks for all the replies.

TAZ - check out Daytona MiG - that's the one I got and so far has performed every task I needed it to do from 3/8" frame plates, bumper mounts, etc. I like it a lot!! Easy and effective.

obtw they have the auto darkening helmets on sale for under 100 bucks.

cool thanks rat, fleet farm add this week has cutting torch for $130, still have to see how much to repair the old one. :-|
