Headers

I hear alot of people piss and moan about the quality of headers available for AMCs. What is everyone's experience in this area? I'm looking for help before I finish putting together my engine. If headers are more trouble than they are worth, I'll stick with manifolds or have a set fabbed up by a fabricator friend. Tahnks for your input.

hedmans are all i have made them in teh past...flange is all the difference...ty a set of hedmans you wont be sorry

if you are going with the wheel well headers test fit them if they hit the front body mount send them back it happened to me and they found the were bent wrong other then that love them

Hey fuzz, what brand are you using? I'm not using fenderwell headers, they are cheaper but don't like the looks of them. Thanks for the incite fuzz and big chief jeeper dude.

i have the headman wheel well headers with 1-3/4" tubes and jet-hot coated

Personally, I have had Headman Headers on my 401 CJ-7 for about 4 years. During that 4 years I have replaced the gaskets at least 10 times and have even tried the copper gaskets! The fit was not that great either. (mine were in frame) On the passenger side the tubes contacted the frame rail and on the driver's side the front tube rubbed on the steering column! Since I am in the process of getting ready to go through my 401, I just purchased a set of older (no smog holes) stock manifolds. Hell, I should have learned my lesson in High School when I had the same damn problems on my street cars! Oh well, live and learn! That's my two-cents worth

Not that I would be buying any anytime soon, but I have been looking at the new Edelbrock headers. They replace the stock manifolds, so could be a good thing! Plus uncoated, you can get them for like $350. Jack

Doug Thorley, though they come with 2.5 inch collectors, you can abuse them and they dont break easily , also have had 0 gasket problems in 8 years of Wheelin with em. Oh yeah BTW cut the 2.5 collectors off, strech and then weld 3" collectors on. Dusty

I bought the Heddman elite inframe headers. Hopefully they work as good as they look.

Not to knock it cause you already spent the money but with headers you get what you pay for the thinner flange will haunt you with the headmans. D

I was replacing gaskets every month with my heddmans, Put a set of good copper gaskets in and have not had a problem in about 8 or 9 months now.
