There was a special on Discovery :-| just a few days ago all about Three Mile Island. Great show, catastrophic event, I am glad I lived at the other end of the state.

no doubt :shock: i hope that we don't have the big earthquake here in socal. the nuke electric plant is only 30 miles from work :!: :shock: it sits on the san andreas fault! it could hurt big time later,dog :lo1l:

Why the hell would anyone put a nuke plant on the San Andreas Fault?!?! :shock: That is by far the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of!!! And I thought engineers where supposed to be smart! 111!!!

Yeah, that doesn't make too much sense to me either. That thing must be built like a tank! Good luck with your cahones glowing for the rest of your life! So how long ago was Chernobel(sorry, don't know how to spell it)? You guys ever see that movie? Show the fire rescue squad up o nthe roof and looking into a hole, and lookie there! :!: Its the core!! Woo Hoo!! Those poor guys died alomst instantly. I guess its better to die quick like that than go through some of the decades of pain and suffereing that some of htose people went through. I saw another show about the guys going in to film the core for the first time back in high school. There were large crystal formations all over the place. It was really interesting to say the least. These guys had a brass pair to try and work in that environment. They also talked about the decaying shed that protects the palnt from the outside world, and how its falling apart. :shock: Or just as bad, how about us dropping the ol' bomb? People walking around with their skin falling off!! Yuck!!!

I'm not sure how many Billions of cubic meters of cement were used to encase the reactors waiting for the place to cool down - in 5-10 thousand years.
I was with one of the intell services when it happend, and the pics weren't very pretty.

Oh man, I bet that wasn't pretty. Sorry to drag that up. I have always wondered how they built the casing with it being soooo radioactive. I would imagine build it off site in large chunks and then move it in. I have always wondered about the ground around that area. I wonder how deeply into the earths crust it affected things. Bet there are some crazy looking earthworms over there....kinda like the Simpsons paradoy of the 3 eye'd fish. Its not really a joking matter, but I just find it completely facinating.

Thanks Fuzz. Interesting read from that woman, but I think she is kidding herself and will have an early demise. It would be typical Russian propaganda to say it's safe to ride thru there. But even SHE said 1 meter off the asphalt radiation is 4-5 times to high!!!

Mudrat, I was an M.P. stationed at a TS listen post in Germany when Chernobyl went up. We were a little concerned about fall out but the rad meters never got to high. My wife was preg with our son at the time. ( I blame that for the way he is at 17 :wink: )
