durbs wroteI am thinking about getting 34x10.5 SS LTBs now instead of a regular m/t tire. Anyone try these out? Looks like they should be mint in the mud. they are bias so that kinda sucks but how tall are these? are they a true 34"?
My friend has them on his '79 scout and loves them. On the trail they seem fairly similar to my 33-10.50 SS TSL-raidals. The LTB's are bias ply which is nice for airing down and don't seem to be a problem for handling/drivability. It is hard to tell that they are bias and not radial from the handling perspective.
The 34-10.50's rock for the terrain that we have in Colorado - rocks with loose dirt - Narrower is better since cuts through the dirt and does not float on top. Also the narrower tires are better for clearance/rubbing problems with wheelwells and suspension/steering. Surprisingly, they are not too noisy on the road either. My friend previously had 33-12.50 SS Thornbirds before the LTB's and the thornbirds sucked. The Thornbirds were so un-roadworthy that they casued the scout to wander and the noise would give you a migrane. His handling has gotten 100% better just by switching to the LTB's
Yes, they are 34" - slightly bigger than my 33 TSl's". The tread pattern is very similar to the TSL's, but a bit deeper sipons between the center lugs. These might be my next set of tires after my 33TSL-radials.
Overall, I think that is is one of the better tires that SS makes if you aren't looking for a 44" bogger.
