AMC V8 - additional oil sys mods

If you groove your distributor as shown, you will increase the oil to it:

This is to be installed into the timing cover to oil the distributor
gear/timing chain:

I AM thinking of drilling and "jetting" one of the pipe plugs just above and beside the cam hole:

I dont like the idea of adding an external line or boring a hole to oil the dizzy gear, The line is a direct oil shot but the hole just hits the back of the timing gear. I have done both mods in the past and found that they do no favors to the mains in the rear of the block. I do favor the valley pan line and drilling out the mains though

It would be nice to assemble the timing cover with the distributor installed and be able to see the distrib gears mesh, maybe going too deep or too shalllow? How about using that orange ring-gear dye?

I've been meaning to ask..
That Under-manifold line.. Is that somethin that could be done with the engine assembled (other than the intake removed).

I don't much enjoy the idea of pulling the engine out of the car & dismantling it. I'm... short on facilities to do this conveniently. (Right now, I'm having a hard time coming up with somewhere to put the car in the first place..)

And how many kits for this are on the market and (in you guys' opinions) Which is best?

In my opinion without sounding like a salesman any pump mods are good, the under intake or valley line mod is great (cant be done well with engine installed, small chips scratch mains) The dizzy timing cover external oil line is a bad idea in my opinion.

Are speaking of running the engine or just a "mock-up" type look see?
Could a old (used up) cover be fitted with a sight glass to view in to see the mesh of the cam and dist. gears? To view how the oil flows in a running engine would be kinda hard as oil isn't transparent :smile:

So where does this oil come from if you cut a groove in the dist housing? I just went out and looked at a front cover and dist. and I can see NO benefit to grooving your dist. housing, not unless you are working on "The heartbeat of america"-(ROD KNOCK)
