I have a rebuildable 904 from a 2.8L (actually off a 2.5L but it's the same except this one has the hole for EFI sensor) I bought it as a working core from the local parts yard for $50. In Seattle.

Would one from a 4.0 cherokee work? If so I'm sure my uncle has one in northern WI.

4.0L and AMC V8 bolt pattern is the same. The 2.54L AMC 4 cyl and GM 2.8L used in XJs use the 60 degree GM bellhousing. (just a note, but the 4 cyl GM motor used in 80-83 CJs uses the same 90 degree bolt pattern as 4.3L V6, Chev inline 6 cyls and Chev V8)
