J20 As you know I'm building a 401 for my J20. I've encountered many opinions as to what I need to do to ensure the engine is well oiled. I read with great interest the words on your timing covers. If I intend my engine to operate at less than 4000 rpm will the stock oil pump surfice? it should and if so one of your covers (nickle plated?) should do the trick. I do intend to add the valley oil mod. Is there significant benefit in increasing the oil pump volume via taller gears or more teeth and with that increasing oil pan capacity?
FrankNB I recently bought a nickle plated cover and adapter.. I can't wait 'till it comes in.. I never really asked myself why? Is there a link about the idea for the nickel? I can't seem to find it..
CJ Shark Oil pressure dropped this week by 25 psi. Thinking the new gears have finally scored too much. How much for everything bud. Nickle cover & nickle oil filter adaptor w/ gears?
FrankNB Well, my cover, adapter, and stainless tube came in yesterday... Very cool.. I like the way the nickle feels on my fingers...  I might just hang it on the kitchen wall, it looks too good to dirty it up with mud...
FrankNB Question: My buddy at the machine shop was installing my Napa waterpump from the old cover.. Pump only a year old and was in good condition. He said he had to put a shorter pump shaft cause the blades were rubbing on the cover. Are the covers planed or something? would there be too much Nickel buildup, should we have sanded it down instead?
Comet I have a Flow Kooler high flow pump and had the same problem. Went back to the instructions and they said to add 2 gaskets instead of one. I assume it is for this reason. I haven't tried it out yet.
